Tanning Ledge & Sun Deck Are They Worth It?

Tanning Ledge and Sun Decks: Are They Worth It?

Have you ever considered a tanning ledge or a sun deck? If you have, you may have a few questions which we hope to answer here for you.

Although practically everybody enjoys swimming, many people underestimate just how overwhelmingly popular swimming is. In fact, swimming is the fifth most popular activity in the United States!

That is one of the main reasons that getting a swimming pool is such a solid investment. Sometimes, people imagine that they will use something, but then never end up doing so. But when it comes to swimming pools, they are consistently attractive to everyone who has access to them!

Tanning ledges are a great way to make a swimming pool an even more enjoyable experience.  So what exactly can tanning ledges do for you, and how can you know if they are worth the investment?

Read on to learn all about the cost and benefits of tanning ledges!

Are Pool Tanning Ledges Worth It?

Some people ask “What is a tanning ledge?” or “What is a sun deck?” In both cases, the answer is the same. It is a shallow area of the pool along the edge.

The reason these shallow areas are called tanning ledges is because of how perfect they are for tanning.

You can enter the refreshing water and enjoy the Sun at the same time. People can sometimes get too hot while tanning, so this is a great way to be able to control your temperature.

Many people asked, “Are sun shelves in pools worth it?” This is the other half of the equation. Even with all of these benefits, you can’t know if they will be worth it unless you know how much it will cost you to acquire them.

So how much more does a tanning ledge cost? There are basically two different kinds of tanning ledges. One is elevated and mostly separated from the rest of the pool.

The other kind is built into this side of the pool. It basically consists of just another section of the pool, but with a very high floor, creating an area of shallow water.

A separate, elevated tanning ledge can cost between $5,000 and $10,000. On the other hand, with a tanning ledge built into the side of an inground pool, the additional cost will be added to the pool cost, which can be much lower than a separated ledge.

Other Benefits of Sun Shelves

A lot of commercial pools come with shallow ends for younger swimmers. A sun shelf can provide pretty much the same function. If young children will be using your pool, then the sun shelf is a great area for them to safely get used to the water.
